If you’re getting broadband, phone and maybe digital TV separately, you’ve probably thought about the savings you could make by getting two or more products from one provider.

Lots of broadband internet providers are now offering broadband with TV and phone, or simply broadband and TV, as well as traditional standalone broadband. Selling products together is called bundling, and there are several broadband, TV and phone bundles available.

There are lots of broadband, TV and phone bundles available from Virgin Media, Tiscali and Sky. Virgin Media also sells quadplay packages - broadband, TV, phone and mobile phone.

Pros and cons of bundles

From a consumer’s point of view a broadband, TV and phone bundle can be a great deal:

you get a discount for buying more than one product from the same internet provider.
they are convenient – only one provider to contact.
as there are several variations within broadband, TV and phone packages you’ve got a good chance of finding a package that really suits you: the broadband speed you want, the channels you watch and a phone deal that gives you cheap calls when you need them.

But on the downside:

it can be hard to compare prices of bundles as there are so many elements in them
if you do change your mind about a part of a bundle you may find that you cannot cancel for 12 months, or that when you do cancel you end up paying for the remaining parts of your bundle at a higher price. Check the provider’s site for this.

So it’s always worth taking a little time to work out what you need and want before getting seduced by the discounts or extras.

How much are you paying now?
If you already have digital TV or broadband, find out how much you are paying now to ensure that your new package is actually a good deal for you. Don’t forget to check out your last couple of phone bills too, if that’s part of the bundle you want.

What do you need?
Ask yourself what you need from each element of a bundle so you know what to look for in a broadband, TV and phone bundle:

For broadband do you need high speeds? Or heavy download limits?
For TV, It sounds obvious but think about what you really want to watch, and how much time you’ll spend watching it.
For phone, dig out your phone bill again and find out when you make most of your calls, and where to – local, UK or international?
