We've put together this short guide to help you work out whether current broadband offers will work for you and your family - and we've also listed what we feel are some of the best broadband offers around at this time. 5 tips for choosing the best broadband offer for you1. What do I want from my broadband package? It sounds obvious but when reviewing broadband offers, don't lose sight of what you need from your broadband - there are lots of broadband packages available now aimed at everyone from new users to heavy surfers and teenagers wanting to download music in double quick time. There's no point signing up for a broadband offer if you'll end up frustrated with a cheap broadband offer that simply doesn't include the options you want, or includes options you don't need. 2. How much will it cost? There are some excellent introductory broadband offers around but do work out what it will cost you over 12 months (or more if the contract is for longer than that). Some broadband packages offer some free or low-cost months followed by several months at full price, so check that the full price months don't take it over your annual broadband budget. 3. How long is the contract? Some broadband offers are low-cost but have longer contracts - a typical broadband contract is 12 months but some have 18 or 24 month contracts. 4. Is the broadband offer open to me? Broadband offers often have quite wide criteria but do check when you click through from the broadband offers on UK Broadband Finder to the internet providers' websites. Some are open to new customers only. Some broadband offers require you to sign up online. Others are aimed at people switching from another broadband internet provider, and some are specifically aimed at people switching from the same type of broadband, eg ADSL with another internet provider. 5. What is customer service like? Ask friends and family to see if they recommend particular broadband internet providers or broadband offers. Bear in mind that some factors, such as broadband speed, can be affected by many things (eg distance from the exchange, line quality, contention ratio) some of which will be different for you and someone else on the same broadband offer. But they'll be able to tell you what they think of customer service, technical support, or the usefulness of any broadband offer "extras" etc. it is also worth looking at online forums discussing broadband offers so you can see what others are saying.
