Do you need to go online every now and again but don't want broadband? Still can't receive broadband where you live? Or you want a fall-back in case your broadband service goes down? A dial up (or narrowband) internet access service may be the answer - cheap internet access for basic surfing.
What is dial up internet access?Dial-up internet access uses a modem to connect with the internet via a phone line - you simply dial up via your internet service provider or ISP, to access the web. Dial up, or narrowband as it is also known, is slower than broadband - usually coming in at 57.6kb (the slowest broadband packages start at 512kb), so it is most suitable for casual web browsing or as a back-up to a broadband connection. The main drawback for dial-up, particularly for a family, is that unlike broadband, dial up is not an "always on" service - it monopolises the phone line which cannot then be used for anything else. Some areas in the UK cannot receive broadband and are still on dial-up. AOL Anytime
Speed up your dialup
Onspeed
doesn't actually speed up your internet service - it compresses each
webpage or email so it downloads to your computer more quickly. Onspeed costs only £24.99 per year (you will still have to pay for any dial up, broadband or mobile service you use).
