A report in The Times says that Thales' telecom Services division is the preferred bidder to build and manage a superfast fibre broadband network in South Yorkshire. The scheme will cover homes and small businesses and will offer superfast broadband speeds of up to 50Mb. The project will involve repalcing copper wires from exchanges to street cabinets with fibre cables.
